I messed up a first date with someone whom I got to like very well, now he won't speak to me?

Should I even try to explain that I was a bit nervous and had a couple too many gles of wine, that's why I got pissy? or is the fact that after getting so close he won't even speak to me a sign that he isn't worth trying to apologize to.... which I have.... I just didn't explain everything...
