"No Gas May 15th", - why do so many people still believe this myth?

I think people are persuaded because they see it as the quickest, easiest way to make a point without actually doing anything to inconvenience themselves. It's the American way. The thought of actually driving less and consuming less gas is absurd, just wait a day to fill up. Boycotting gas stations for one day will accomplish nothing, everyone will fill up at some point. They just wanna whine and make a scene about it without actually doing anything to change the situation.
