Has my baby got colic?

we have a near 7 week old baby girl, every night at 6pm (give or take 15 mins or so) she screams the house down for at least an hour or more! Health visitor & friends have said it is colic, with the best remedy being to hold her to the chest and pat her bum, does it work, does it hell! Anyone got any other remedies?
